Bicycle Helmets |
|
In December, 2007, the JLEC participated in a day dedicated to donating Bicycle Helmets to unprivileged children along with a Bike Safety Class.
As part of a grant, The Florida Department of Health donated bike helmets to a number of counties across the state and our league was fortunate to receive 200 helmets!
The Done In A Day (DIAD) committee arranged for a bicycle safety course, hot dogs and hamburgers and partnered with Front Porch, Okaloosa County Sheriff ’s Office and the Emerald Coast Cycling Association for an outstanding event.
The helmets were properly fitted to each child’s head prior to distributing them. It was one of the many DIAD projects that directly benefit the community.
Follow the link below to some valuable information from the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute. It has statistics, tips on getting children to wear helmets, tips on current trends and so much more.
Thank you for making this event a success!
