Beach Appétit is the second cookbook from the Junior League of the Emerald Coast published in recent years.  Our last cookbook, The Sugar Beach Cookbook completely sold out which told us it was time to get back to the drawing board, and start working on some new recipes. 

The Emerald Coast is a wonderful place to live; with our beautiful coastline and emerald green waters it is no wonder that seafood plays a large role in the local cuisine.  One only has to stand on the dock at Fisherman's Wharf in Destin or glance over the Mid-bay Bridge in the early evening to see the countless fishing trawlers to realize the impact that local seafood plays on the local economy and appetites.  The majority of our finest dining establishments are situated along the gulf and feature local seafood, such as Amberjack, Snapper, Cobia, Tuna, Crab, and Shrimp on their menus.  It is referred to as coastal cuisine.  As a result, we have chosen to feature seafood in our cookbook as we highlight the different courses and sides that constitute a superb meal.

The other goal of Beach Appetit is to also provide a flavor of the local area and attractions, particularly those that feature wine and food as their focus.  Within the pages of this cookbook you will find sidebars describing our local seafood and food/wine festivals.  Beach Appetit will provide information on some of the best dining establishments in our area, as well as go into depth about some of the local fish and agricultural products that make up coastal cuisine.  The members of the Junior League of the Emerald Coast share with you their favorite recipes, tested in our own kitchens, highlighting the best foods our region has to offer.  We invite you to turn the following pages and take a journey along the Emerald Coast of Northern Florida enjoying the cuisine and abundance the area has to offer.  Bon 'Beach' Appetit!
